The case in point is Amazon. I watched a documentary on PBS about the rise of Amazon. We are talking $$billions$$ of dollars in deals to take over companies and become the biggest in the marketplace. They are even storing data for big companies and the government. Jeff Bezos is the CEO and he is very skillful in his applications of business. There are anti-trust laws being looked at because of the growth of Amazon. Talk about diversification. Amazon is making billions in revenue and paying no taxes. Yes, I said NO taxes. A monopoly in this country is just not fair. Small business is sunk. No way they can compete. And in interviews, they are saying they are not union neutral. So employees are going to be hurting like at Walmart.
I remember when I used to buy my books exclusively at Amazon. They quickly became a seller of clothes, electronics, etc. I have moved away from using Amazon. I wonder how other people feel about this rising monopoly. Do you have Amazon Prime? Are you an Amazon fan? I think it is scary how big it is getting. What are your thoughts?

There is lot of discontent growing within the small and medium businesses in India as their prospects of good business have been dimmed because of Amazon's unfair practices adopted to enhance their business as they claim. Recently Mr. Bezos was in India to attend some conference and these people protested against him.

It really bothers me that this business is getting into storing data for some of the bigger companies and some other things. They are just getting to big for small businesses to make it.

@celticeagle There is nothing they are not in. From toilet rolls to rocket science. Manufacture as well as sales. They have not left anything for smaller players. So is the case of some of the bigger players here in India too.

It would be nice if there are many entrepreneurs and not just a monopoly of one.

I don't shop at either Amazon or Malwart. I prefer to shop locally.

I no longer have Prime. We never used it. I like Amazon. Their customer service is quite good.

So there was oil monopoly of standard oil, burger monopoly of mcdonalds, soda monopoly of coke, jeans monopoly of levis.
There is a song " what about the small guy" .
