I really hate new road construction

I really hate new road construction, especially the stuff going on around me. The town I live in has a new highway. Actually, it's the same old highway but with bridges and extensions built onto it. It looks like one of those toy racetracks with the loops and curves suspended above the ground.
My family and I found ourselves on it recently. We were coming home from my aunt's house and had to take the highway because the backroads were closed, there were several houses on fire and the fire department closed off all traffic.
So there we were, each of us nervous in our own right. We don't usually take the highway, and hadn't been on this one since before the construction. Mix in the fact that it was night, and we were terrified we wouldn't see the exit that would take us back home. The exits were further apart than they once were as well, and so we actually did end up missing our exit.
I was having trouble breathing in the backseat, my seatbelt off and my body stretched towards the center console. My eyes were strained just trying to look for road signs, but by the time I saw another, it was too late. My cellphone was dead, so I couldn't use the maps, if they would even work on this new highway.
I was sure we were in another county by the time the relative, sitting in the front seat, told me that he had a car charger in the glovebox. I demanded he get it out while I yanked my phone from my pocket. Three minutes later it was charging and I had the map up.
"Stop touching the screen" I slapped his hand away and restarted the map, making sure noone touched it. I could see on the screen that we had, infact, crossed the county border. "I've never been to this county, have either of you?"
My companions shook their head, the driver with his hands gripped to the steering wheel. He suggested we just pull over for the night, but I thought that was a horrible idea. I was outvoted, however, and a few minutes later we were sitting on the side of the highway that had turned into two lanes. "Let me go on the record and say that I think this is a stupid idea."
Neither of them seemed to care, and a few minutes passed before they were both asleep. A half an hour later and three cars were parked around our own. There was no getting out of this situation.
....
Then I woke up, but not before being taken hostage.

That is one nice thing about living in a smaller town. Not nearly as much road work

Yeah, I miss that about small town life. The only problem is that when there is road work, it clogs up the whole town.

@ScribbledAdNauseum They're pretty creative with keeping it out of the road here. Although the town we have been working in has had insane traffic. But we finished that job up today.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Oh, I had no idea. My bad.
Any reason why you need to edit it?

@tammys85 Well, I don't like the way it's formatted. That and I feel like some of them were really rough drafts.

I'm sorry!
If it's any consolation, we have had a lot of road construction around my area lately, and that's probably why I had such a dream.1 person likes this

Our county started like a five year long project to re-do roads and highways here. It's been crazy. Most of us it's centered downtown atleast.

Well, I sort of do.
Thank you though. That means a lot.
There is a website someone here was talking about the other day.. It's for stories and I've considered writing them there.

@ExplorewtMe It does. My city actually has had a lot of road construction. It has caused people to have to get up earlier just to take the long way to work.

Our city has been doing major construction on the roadways here. They change their projected finish time often.

It was a horrifying dream. I am not sure why I've been dreaming such stuff lately!
Yep, most of my discussions are dream based lately, sorry!
