Moving on to item number two--this has been on my list for more than two years, and I feel terrible about it. Why? Because it is a portrait of my friend Mark's cat, who passed away. Mark was devastated, and I wanted to paint a picture of the cat, Taz, to help him feel better. Mark was delighted and he sent me his favorite photograph of Taz.
As you may be aware, I normally work in graphite, sometimes in pastel, and only occasionally in acrylic. I love the way my paintings ultimately come out, but doing them is very hard. In this case, I completed the sketch to my liking and started blocking in the background, but I got bogged down over a difficult part of the background (the window with the hanging plant in front to the right), and it became some sort of mental block. The painting has sat in this state for far too long, and I need to get it done. Mark has been very nice about the delay, but I owe it him and to myself as well to push through and finish it.

Yes, I don't do as much artwork as people would think. I have another portrait commission that I have to finish this week.

At least he's seen it this far, as I posted this picture on Facebook to publicly shame myself into working on it!

.....this, although nice but the story behind it makes me sad....this should be number one on the list as it has a meaning behind it and if public shaming is what gets you going then shame on you Ms Ali for not getting this done.......i really hope you can get into action for poor Mark's sake.....
