Do You Go Or Do You ... Stay Home?

Millions of people are wondering if they should go on planned vacations now. Some are deciding to go ahead ... others are afraid because of the coronavirus. Gracious, a lot of people will be out of their money if they cancel trips. Just being scared of getting the coronavirus isn't enough. If I were getting ready to go on a trip I would want to take plenty of hand sanitizer with me. I would be so conscious of touching my face with my hands and wash them as often as possible. I wonder if people will begin to use gloves? It seems touching things when in public is where one needs to be very cautious. I am still trying to determine what all one needs to do to avoid the virus. I'm not going to panic ... I hope others don't either.

Tourism is suffering because travelers are staying home. We usually take vacations during summer but this year I don't think we can have a trip just to be safe from the virus.

@GrannyGee the greeting with a touch does not apply to me because I am not a physical person who hugs or shakes hands automatically. Anyway, there is no contamination here on record but it is better to be safe than sorry.

@Alexandoy I understand. We didn't think anyone here was sick ... because it's so much like a cold. When someone is sick they don't know unless tested. They are trying to make a test quickly as possible to use on someone, know in 15 minutes if they are infected. You know how that goes ... that's something that takes years. Skip and I are private people ... when we go out ... people hug us, we hug back. It's sad but, I know for everyone to take precautions to protect one another ... hugging will have to stop. So, far here ... there are 63 cases that are reported but, we have hints that isn't all. Two cases ... no one knows how it infected them. I hope it never reaches your area.

Alex, I understand well. This doesn't seem to be the time at all to be vacationing, be out in big crowds, and such. I'm glad we have always been very private people ... we are used to being to ourselves though we love everyone, enjoy seeing everyone. Now, we will have to stop hugging, touching things ... if we do, we will have to use hand sanitizer. On our news they just said it spreads from touching surfaces where droplets, and such are ... the best advice they suggest is ... to wash our hands frequently ... touch our faces less. I hope you and your family stay safe. WHO has just made this a global level high. I saw that on our news this morning.

I'm supposed to go to Northern Italy with work in 4 weeks. I'm more worried about the paper silverfish that has infected the whole school at I work at than over the corona virus. If we're going, I probably won't do anything different. Never been worried about germs and bacteria when travelling, never caught anything but a food poisoning at Heathrow. I've also been thinking about going to Northern Italy this summer, maybe I should check to see if it's cheaper to book now.

@GrannyGee I think the corona virus is going to spread everywhere, so it'll be like flu. They seem to find it in hospitals here, so I'd better stay healthy also if I don't go anywhere

@Torunn Yes, it looks like it will spread everywhere. They talk like it is like the flu ... people with compromised immune systems have to be very careful ... just like trying to avoid getting the flu.

the people here remain stubborn those who have just come from other countries brought the virus to here and have spread to 11 provinces. Every time I touch anything I immediately clean it with soap. I certainly can't stay at home, at least I need sunlight to get a source of energy.

That's so sad because people spread it and either knowingly or not knowingly ... it leaves sickness, fear behind them. I so hope you'll stay well. I'm glad you take precautions.

@marguicha Stay safe. We have been home before people are being told to stay home. We have been home for about 2 weeks now, with the exception of taking a drive to see if traffic was still like normal, stores open ... we just looked, drove back home without getting out or interacting with others.

We don't use the hand sanitizer unless out and we can't get to soap and water. Since we aren't out anymore ... we use soap and water. We did drive out today to see if there's any change in traffic, so on ... everything is going on like normal. We didn't come in contact with anyone, came home.

Masks are also important at this moment. And perhaps it is not a good idea to travel around in this situation as you can't do anything if you are in an infected area.

@GrannyGee Here wearing a mask to go out is a must at present. In fact the infected people can be without any symptoms and this is why it is better for everybody put on a mask. In fact I don't buy a lot of masks as they are also short here. I wear the same mask to go out for a month already. Since I don't often go out and that's OK for me to keep on using it. There is no better option anyway.

Here, they are saying don't buy masks because it will cause a shortage for the medical staff, and such. Only buy masks if you are sick so you don't spread a cold, flu. You are where so much is happening ... so, I would think if you said mask are important, then they are. I will buy some mask to keep onhand. We don't go out a lot from home but, will a lot this coming week.

My sister and her husband just cancelled their trip to Japan (and thank goodness because for the longest none of us could convince them not to go). We don't travel far - so we weren't even thinking about any trips in the near future anyway - and we'll continue to not think about it for now.

@GrannyGee My sister is very stubborn. They figured the whole corona virus was just hype . . . and that they got their flu shot and facial masks, so all would be fine. Well, the way the world is going currently, we definitely think it was best to cancel - and I'm glad they finally came to their senses. All we can do is keep up our immune systems as much as we can - and yes, keep our hands clean and out of our faces.

Wow. I can understand their desire to go to Japan ... wanting to keep their plans. It's hard to cancel out something that means so much. I am sure so much heartache went into their decision. I'm relieved for you, them ... that they did to make you have peace of mind. Stay safe. I understand the main thing to protect ourselves is to wash our hands frequently ... touch our faces less often. It seems this is how it spreads.

@GrannyGee Yeah especially in crowded places,We should wear one along with the sanitizer..In my country, facemask has an ongoing shortage,a lot of people keep on buying.I was wondering would you choose a disposable face mask or a washable facemask?which one is better?

We are told not to buy the face masks unless we are sick, coughing when out and around others. That's so the health workers will have them as there's been shortages on them. The advice here is to wash your hands frequently ... touch your faces less. When away from home I will keep hand sanitizer on hand and we'll use it frequently. I understand the danger lays on surfaces where droplets, and such are from infected people. Stay safe. It's good to keep cellphones, steering wheels, door handles and such sanitized, also.

@cgalavia Wow, I haven't thought about which mask to use. Here in the USA we are told not to purchase the masks so the healthcare workers wouldn't face a shortage. Only to wear one if we are sick. There is a shortage though.

My hubby and I started to make plans to go to the Oregon coast in April- we did this about a month ago. Unless trains stop running, we plan to go. We'll be alert and careful but we intend to go. I just hope this has all blown over by then. And I hope the trains keep running.

Hand sanitizer is great when you do not have access to soap and water. I hate to think that people are hunkering down and hiding out from this virus, but I can understand after what was reported in California.

The best advice now is to wash your hands frequently ... touch your face less. That's what we will do when there's a place to wash hands when out. When out I will keep a bottle of hand sanitizer to constantly use until we are home. It seems so far ... the biggest danger is what lays on surfaces like droplets, and such ... our hands touch them ... then touch our cellphones, our faces, our purses, our children ... our food, everything. So when out ... hand sanitizer it is. Take care, be safe.
