As I promised in my last post, here I am with the interesting story about the delicious dish for our dinner tonight..
Pav Bhaji is a very popular Indian dish which can be found everywhere in India. And not only India but abroad too. The name has two terms.. Pav meaning soft bread and bhaji meaning lots of veggies together.
It originated in Mumbai, Maharashtra in 1860s. The traders and poor workers at Bombay ( now Mumbai) Cotton exchange worked really late in night. And when they went back home their wives would get annoyed to serve them dinner at midnight. But people wanted to run their cotton business. So to keep the poor workers working till late night, they started serving them late evening meal. And to be on profitable side, the meal was cheap and from leftovers. Left over veggies were collected from homes and breads from all churches and neighbors. These veggies were mashed together and served with buttered bread.
Now from such a humble beginning this dish has come a long way in centuries.
.From a food for poor, it has become popular in all sects and classes. From street food to sophisticated dine outs you can find it everywhere.
So I leave you with this delicious story. Now I am going to enjoy my delicious dinner as shown in picture.
The side dishes are green chutney ( mint and corriander chutney) , sliced onion, lemon and cucumber pieces. And the green chillies are there for my husband. We can't withstand green chillies.

You are welcome. I found it quite interesting to know that it's more than a century old dish. What came out of left overs turned out to be such a popular dish.

Oh cool! Even we had Pav Bhaji yesterday with pav buns and bread. This is a great and yummy dish, but definitely not a great choice health and calorie wise.

I feel that bhaji is quite healthy choice. Yes pav and too much butter can be a spoiler. One can have these delicious bhaji with roti.

My meal seems to be incomplete without chutney. It adds to the taste of a meal.
