Here’s another song that you’ve probably sung along with without a clue that it was a cover. #8: Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood Way back in the disco era there was a band called Santa Esmeralda, who took “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” and made a disco hit out of it. The classic rockers cringed at the thought of taking one of the biggest hits by the Animals and turning it into a disco song. Psst, guess what!! The Animals weren’t the first act to record this song! The year before the Animals recorded the classic version, singer Nina Simone recorded the tune. It’s all good, though: both the Animals and Simone are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
