Special shopping hours in Perth, Western Australia, for those with disability and pension cards

The photo has nothing to do with the discussion but was taken at a horse breed show we attended recently. I don’t know if any country other than Australia has IGA supermarkets. The individual stores are independently owned but have grouped together to give them the buying power of the bigger conglomerates. Now, one IGA located in Pier St in Perth, the capital city of Western Australia has announced special shopping hours for those with disability and pension cards. While the coronavirus guidelines are in place, the first hour of trading of each day will be restricted to card-holders giving them a chance to pick up supplies while the shelves are hopefully somewhat stocked. They will also avoid having to compete with any crowds of shoppers that may be in the store at other times. I think this is a great initiative.

That is a good idea and one that I haven't heard is going on here. We do have IGA stores, but they seem to be dwindling. I used to love shopping there.

I love our IGA. As soon as anyone is waiting in line they bring up more cashiers. You barely wait any time at all although I believe with this panic buying even they have been battling to keep up.

@JudyEv Yes, I think everyone is battling it all. We are now having restricted openings with retail here. Lots of closures!

@kareng You wonder when it will all stop. Then hopefully at some point, it will all start reversing again.

Neat markings on the back of the horse. That is wonderful news that they are doing this for people.

This is a good way to ensure that those with disability or those who are on pension have access to much-needed supplies.

@JudyEv true. Plus, this is the time that we should take care of the most vulnerable sectors of our society We should look after each other.

Exactly. I'm sure many will be very grateful for a slightly emptier store for an hour.

@JudyEv I think the color on the horse is really cool. I ado not believe we have supermarkets like that here.

We have the IGA stores here as well. That is such a wise decision to offer special offers for those who should not be out with the general public as it could mean they could acquire the virus innocently should someone be carrying it unknowingly.

And they hopefully won't have to push and shove, or be pushed and shoved, as they shop.
