Good morrow all. This post is brought to you today by the letter C and the number 5.
Yesterday (Wednesday), I'd not had the best day at work. In fact, this week has been a bit rubbish. I got home - in pain from carrying shopping as well as a work bag (in case we have to work from home at short notice). Not in a brilliant mood. Of course, I was happy to come home to my lovely husband and youngest son. I was also pleased that I'd finished a piece of work I'd planned. I also leave the office an hour early on a Wednesday.
At home, my husband put away the shopping, made me a cup of tea, and had a film ready that we'd agreed to watch.
As I went to settle down, I saw that we had some post. One was about rent, one was about a benefit that we get. The third, however, was in a small envelope, the address hand written but no return address. At first, I thought it was my eldest son's handwriting and that it was a note for Mother's Day but then I saw the postage stamp was from Gatwick, which is the opposite end of the country from where he lives!
Upon opening the envelope, I pulled out what I thought was going to be a letter. It was, in fact, a homemade card. On the front was a picture of my eldest step-daughter, her husband, and their three children. Above the picture, it said 'Happy Mother's Day". So I was right that it was for Mother's Day just the wrong child
Inside the card was a little verse (I won't share as it's very personal) and a few more pictures of the little ones. C had addressed me as 'Nanny Pumpkin' (well, with my actual name rather than Pumpkin). The note was short but concise, making me feel loved and appreciated. I was so happy, I could have burst. My husband wanted to see but I wouldn't let him until I'd had a proper look myself!
My husband said he knew who it was from by my reaction - my ear to ear grin! It was a surprise as I've not had Mother's Day things from either of my step-daughters before. I've always been happy for the grandchildren to just call me by my name. It was so lovely to know that I am recognised as their grandparent. My husband said that it's not always easy to tell how C feels about things but this certainly was very clear. My husband said he's really proud of me for lots of things - my academic achievements, taking on adventure, working hard - but especially for being a good mother and grandmother to all of our special people. He told C that I was so happy I almost cried. She was happy but she did tell me off because I shouldn't have opened it until Sunday! Of course, I didn't know what it was before I opened it so I didn't know.
That's my good news for today. I'm still gushing. The card has pride of place on my mantelpiece.
Have you had any - or given/planned - nice surprises for Mother's Day or anything else?

It was. I couldn't think of much that would have made me happier - besides actually having the family here, of course!

What a lovely surprise! Happy early Mother's Day! I'm not a mother except to my fur babies (we don't have any anymore).

Thank you! It certainly was the best surprise. I told my colleagues about it today, and told them that nothing could possibly dampen my mood.
