Don't Call Me, I'll Call You

I was told to sit in my car in front of the healthplex, and they said they would call me to tell me when I could come in. I had Botox for migraines again today (every three months), and because of the coronavirus things were different. After they called me to enter, I was met by two masked nurses who took my temperature, and then sent me to the second floor. Another masked nurse met me at the elevator to sit and wait to be seen. When they finally called me in they proceeded to do the 17 injections in my shoulders, neck, back of head, sides of head, forehead, and right between the eyes. I inquired if they ever injected the jaw muscles and I related my problems with grinding my teeth. She had some extra Botox so she injected my jaw too. I was very happy about that. I grind my teeth so badly I have cracked my teeth, even while wearing a dentist made mouth guard. Once again, this is for migraines, which I have had for decades, and nothing has worked as well as the Botox. It does not freeze my forehead or improve wrinkles. It's purely medical which is why my insurance will pay for it. It was definitely a different experience, but I understand the extra measures. All of the nurses but one (there were 5) I saw today were encouraging to me when I asked how long they thought this pandemic will last.

Oh dear, I'm happy you get some relief that way, sorry it has to be in the form of shots though.

The one that hurts the most is the back of the head because it is so bony, I think.

This a new learning, I always thought that Botox are for minimizing wrinkles. And 17 injections, wow, your tolerance with pain is unbelievable.

I do have a high pain tolerance, probably because my migraines started when I was eight. Years of migraines, some lasting days, made me tougher than I might have been otherwise.

I didn't know they used Botox as a treatment for migraines. You learn something new everyday!

I heard Botox was great for migraines. Of course everyone needs to take extra precautions these days.

My mother says I grind my teeth badly too. I have heard botox helps for migraines. I don't get them, but I do get painful headaches sometimes.

It's good that the botox helps your migraines. At least that's a sensible use for it.

That's a shame they didn't help her. I didn't expect for them to help as much as they do.
