Staying Active

When the weather is chilly and damp, as it has the last couple of days, it is very easy for me to fall into couch potato mode and not get adequate exercise. Since I have been working from home, I have noticed that I seem to be getting less and less exercise so last week I challenged myself to get a minimum of 10,000 steps at least six days a week. Some days it’s pretty easy. I walk the dog. I do some yard work. I walk the dog again. I run up and down the stairs a thousand times doing laundry. Other days I look at my pedometer after dinner and discover that I’m only at 5,000 steps. Today was one of those days. So I took the dog for an extra walk. When she decided that rolling in the wet grass was more fun I put her back in the house and continued to walk up and down the street without her. When I returned to the house and checked my numbers, I still wasn’t finished so I made a few trips from the basement to the second floor and back again. I am officially at 10,055 steps so I can give myself a pat on the back and spend the rest of the evening at rest.

@SophiaMorros Wow, that's very impressive. Good for you. And a record that hardly needs 'breaking' but good luck with it.

I managed to maintain a six-days-a-week streak for almost 4 months last year before life got in the way. I'm hoping to surpass that.

Staying active is one way to feel physically and mentally sharp as a tack.

As I get older it's getting harder and harder to keep that point sharp!

I'm sure you must have felt very good after the exercise was done.

I have become lazy in recent days because my energy has dropped, I need to activate myself.

I find the less I move, the less I want to move. I'm trying to keep myself active.

Great idea and walking does keep the blood flowing and helps with breathing. Will surely take you up on this.

Good for you! 10,000 CAN be a challenge when you are home most all of the day unless you have a treadmill at home. Glad you are making your goals.

I wish we had a treadmill, especially on rainy days. Thankfully our street doesn't get a lot of traffic so walking up and down it is safe.

If I don't make an effort I usually get between 5000-7000. I'm trying to make an effort.

Way to go! I do not know how many steps but I got 3 miles in today, I have been walking 4 to 5 miles most days. Glad to see you back.

My total distance yesterday was between 4 and 5 miles. I don't like the current version of the Fit app because I would prefer to keep track by distance rather than by steps. I miss being able to keep track of how many miles I've walked over time.

Good for you, you can still walk outside. Philippines is on lockdown. We can't go out for a long walk.

Thankfully, we have not gone to complete lockdown. Even if we do though, it is still acceptable to walk dogs (we have one) and we live in a rural neighbourhood, so social distancing doesn't require any real effort on the street.
