Wash Your Hands!

Lots of people have mentioned that they are washing their hands more often and more thoroughly than ever before. I can’t say that I have. But then, I’ve always been pretty diligent about washing my hands.
I worked in food service while I was a college student and it was drilled into us that you wash your hands when you enter the kitchen and you wash your hands both in the restroom before returning to the kitchen AND again in the kitchen before resuming work.
Then I had babies. My hands needed to be washed before picking up the baby. My hands needed to be washed after changing diapers. My hands needed to be washed in the bathroom and again when entering the kitchen to prepare food. In the winter, when the air is cold and dry “dishpan hands” are my normal state.
Now, I wash my hands after I walk the dog, or handle any of the pets. I wash my hands when I come in from outside. I wash my hands after I wipe my nose (it’s allergy season...and my nose has a tendency to drip this time of year).
Yesterday, I started tackling some of the yard work that needs to be done. I use a heavy pair of welding gloves (that I use around the fireplace in the winter) to pick up sticks and rake leaves, but when I pull weeds around my tender strawberry plants I am much more comfortable barehanded.
There was absolutely no question when I stopped weeding for the day, that once again my hands needed to be washed.
I have not been washing my hands more often than in the past. I will admit, though, that I touch my face far more often than I ever realized.

I have always had it drilled into my head to wash my hands, and to use a good amount of soap and water and to get between the fingers, under the nails and everywhere possible.
My Dad used to come into the house from farming, and he always headed straight for his work sink, where he would take a little scrub brush and scrub his hands clean. Of course in those days he used pesticides and was out in the barn with the cattle and the chickens and the barn was never a 'hygienically perfect' place to be.
I am thankful for that upbringing, and it has served me well. Our son is a handwasher, probably more diligently then most people his age. When we used to have and his friends over he was always the last to the table as he was washing up and always the first from the table to wash before helping clear the table.
There are worse habits.

My kids are all good about washing their hands before coming to the table. My husband gets annoyed when we remind him...but since we hold hands during the blessing my kids are very adamant about the need for EVERYONE to have clean hands.

@sophiamorros It’s a bit insulting being told to wash your hands as if you never did. But then again there are those who don’t.

My husband washes his hand after using the facilities and if he comes in with muddy/greasy hands from working. He's not nearly as diligent about handwashing as he probably should be.

I'm forever baffled by people who don't wash their hands...particularly after using the toilet. Yuck!

I have always been an avid hand washer. I worked In a group home for adults with severe disabilities. Hand washing was constant. Going home and changing before errands was also strongly recommended.
When some type of illness went through our facility, I never got it.
Also, it was the time of coming to understand AIDS. We were told proper Hand washing with soap and water was best.

I remember my mom sniffing my hands to make sure I used soap. I did the same thing with my children!

You used to? Is there a reason you stopped?

I agree on the it about touching our face. I'm finding a paper towel works good for that in s pinch and then throw it away until the needed is felt again
Today after lunch I felt something it's on my going/gums. If left intended it would have bugger me all day so I took some toilet paper after first throwing away the first portion and used that to wipe the area. It was a piece of the Clementine that I ate that was stuck there
