Alan Merrill, who penned the anthem "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" that became an era-defining hit for fellow rocker Joan Jett, has died of complications from coronavirus at age 69.
Daughter Laura Merrill announced her father's death on Facebook Sunday, hours after leaving his New York City hospital room.
Merrill wrote about joking with her father about the "cold" he had come down with weeks ago.

Right now, I personally know two people with the virus, both my age. One recovered fairly quickly once admitted to the hospital and put on a ventilator, and the other is still in the hospital in critical condition. I'm afraid the outlook probably isn't good for the one in critical condition.

How terribly sad and I am afraid this is going to get much worse. My nephew is currently in ICU. No visitors allowed.

Wow, we are starting to lose quite a few famous people to this virus, as well as regular folks. What is weird is that this virus can be a tale of two extremes...some people get it bad and succumb very quickly, and others get it and show no symptoms whatsoever. That makes it even scarier, because you don't know how your body is going to react once it gets the virus.

Yes, this is a mean one, that's for sure. It's taking people at all ages, that's what scares me.

Heard about this. I was so scared when my hubs had a sore throat and a headache; but it turned out to be just his allergies. R.I.P. Alan Merrill

John Prine is in critical condition as well. Jackson Browne has the virus too, although I don't think he is very ill.
