In the United Kingdom we are now paying tribute to the National Health Service at 8pm every Thursday night. We stand outside our house and clap for 5 minutes. Its well supported across the land. Tonight it was even louder, ringing bells, fireworks and all manner of clanging things. It sound more like a jailbreak riot than a tribute. Its very moving though. We all know someone in our family could die from this.
But we learn this week the oldest patients with Covid-19 may be left to die and the respirator moved to a younger person. A note was circulated from a surgery that DNR ( Do not resuscitate ) letters were sent out to potential high risk patients to sign, macabre indeed. We also learned 25% of the NHS are off sick or self isolating at any one time. I'm not surprised they dont fancy it. A world pandemic means protective kit is in short supply. Older workers could die on the wards.
We have to support these guys for whats about to hit them.
