Thinking About My Papaya

Papayas

I have planted papayas in my Philippines home before I left a year ago. The seeds grew in my compost that was why I repotted them in my front and back yard. The other day, my cousin who lives in my house sent me some photos and one of them is my papaya tree in my backyard. How I wish to be there to be able to harvest the papaya fruits. These papayas are very sweet. I imagine how I could make them into papaya salad, add the green papaya slices into my chicken soup with Moringa leaves. Of course I want to eat the ripe ones, too. Well, maybe I could go home next year when the corona is gone. I hope. Have you tried eating papaya? Ripe or unripe? Anyway, I might dream of this fruit tonight. Goodnight and thanks for reading. See you later.

Papaya is part of Filipino diet, unripe for my " tinola " (Filipino soup /chicken dish) and ripe for dessert. It's good for people with constipation.

@thelme55 papaya has an enzyme called papain that aids in digestion, it is even used to tenderize meat. Fibers in fruits is another reason.

The papaya in the photo look large and healthy! I've had some papaya from a can; but not fresh. I didn't know you could eat it unripe.

I don´t like the papaya in the can. It doesn´t taste good at all. Yes, you can add raw green slices of papaya in a chicken soup. You can eat this raw papaya in pickles as well. Thank you @LindaOHio

I like this variety of papaya when ripe. I think this the orange or red meat. Those small and yellow when ripe like ours has a not so pleasant odor when ripe.
