Oh, who didn’t see this one coming. Well, I suppose the people who don’t know this song from the catalog of Creedence Clearwater Revival wouldn’t think I’d use it. As I said at the beginning of this countdown, not all of these songs were singles, and here’s one that was snugly in an album...but is still good enough to have made my list. #9: Sailor’s Lament No, my brother’s joining the Navy (he was a big CCR fan when he was a teenager, and I remember hearing their songs through the walls from his room) or my being in the Navy has nothing to do with this being on the list. As I mentioned, this wasn’t a single. It’s an album cut from one of the albums that seems to be forgotten (1970’s Pendulum)...not because it’s a bad album, but because of the albums that preceded it. According to Picky Wedia, Fogerty considers Pendulum the “final” CCR album, because the real “final” CCR album (1972’s Mardi Gras) was “garbage.” Well, there’s nothing trashy about this song....except maybe the crooked card game in the story line! Sailor’s Lament Written by John Fogerty From Pendulum, 1970 Shame, it’s a shame:

This isn't one I knew. They have such a distinctive sound, don't they?

Absolutely! That’s one of the reasons I think their music has endured: nobody sounded like CCR.

It's a shame that CCR was only together for such a short period of time. They still, to this day, remain one of my favorite bands of all time. Their music, their beat, their words, still resonate with so many people! May parents loved CCR, and my love of the band came from hearing my parents playing their music all the time. My own kids love CCR too, as they grew up listening to me play their music.
