It’s time to sing along with another well-known tune from the legendary Creedence Clearwater Revival! I’m counting down my favorites from one of America’s greatest rock bands ever. Here’s today’s song.
#6: Lodi
If I only had a dollar for every song I’ve sung
Every time I had to play while people sat there, drunk
There’s not a musician on earth who doesn’t identify with that line.
One of the great songs, not just by CCR, but about the trials and tribulations of being a touring musician. This may sound a little strange now, in the days of guaranteed contracts even for the least-known national act, but there were days when musicians didn’t always make enough to cover the cost of getting to and from the gig.
Here CCR laments about being stuck 90 miles from home, in the town of Lodi, California. I’m not too sure that Lodi liked that kind of publicity, but at least they’re associated with a terrific tune.

That didn’t make the list. That reiterates how difficult it was to even narrow the list down to 15!
