Finally got some fresh produce

My last trip to the wet market was about 3 weeks ago. I bought all the seafood, fruits and veggies that I could. However, I got so exhausted by the crowd and the heat so I vowed to not come back until this whole mess is over. Since then we would get most of our provisions from the supermarket or from a village peddler. Unfortunately, the peddlers have been banned from roaming.
Thankfully, there's a small eatery a few blocks away that converted its area into a small produce shop. And there we could get fresh fish, meats, vegetables, fruits and eggs. I went there last Sunday and bought provisions enough to last us a week. I was especially happy to see fresh tilapias and other fish in that store. I can survive weeks without red meat, but not without my fish and chicken and eggs. :o/
I plan to get more veggies and fish tomorrow before stores close on Maundry Thursday and Good Friday.

Vendors are also now banned in our subdivision, poor people, I wonder how they can survive this ordeal without a livelihood. Yes we need to eat fresh produce otherwise we would lower our body resistance and become more susceptible.

@almostoveryou you are lucky to have recieved something. Our barangay is one of the largest in our city ( 4-5 depressed areas and 4 gated subdivisions). The population is around 40,000. For some reason only the depressed areas are being helped when those in the gated communites especially the businessmen are the ones giving 10% from their business permit

@louieville our place isn't private/exclusive, but it also means there are 3 checkpoints they're manning. i think our area has become part of the mabuhay lanes, which has its pros and cons.
@almostoveryou we've only received goods 2x, from the barangay and the mayor. mother plans to give them to my siblings when this is over. i've heard in the news about some families putting signs on their gates to give their share to those more in need. i think it's a great gesture to distribute the goods equitably. but i guess in your area they're mandatory? like they make you sign that you received them?

We try our best to consume fruits and vegetables every day. While I'm thankful for the canned goods that our mayor sends us twice a week, we cannot eat them every day. In fact our cupboard is now getting filled up with canned sardines. We cannot refuse the ration so we accept them and keep them for later.

That's nice! We are allowed to go shopping twice a week, although I'm thankful that we got vendors walking around during open hours to sell their vegetables.

Good to know about your situation there. Ambulant vendors are a great help.

@Mamerto32 @almostoveryou here, they were still around the first 2 weeks, even the sorbetero, but not anymore, even the eatery near us has closed, so we really have to go to the wet market, supermarket, and convenience store, which thankfully are only 2 streets away. oh, and the panaderia around the corner is still open, but with less products.

@almostoveryou they are only allowed to get out on certain days, but we now have a new appreciation on them.

what a great idea they came up with and a big help to the neighborhood. i wonder where they get their supplies?
i think the problem for people here is most of them buy from balintawak and have no transporation so even the eateries are closed and the ambulant vendors selling fish, veggies, dried fish are gone.

I suppose they get the supplies from bigger wet markets. Last time I heard they get veggies from Kadiwa. I actually think that our province can subsist with majority of supplies coming in from within our province and from neighboring Batangas and Laguna. We have reasonable restrictions here and most people and communities abide by the law.

@almostoveryou yeah, it's us here in mm that have the problem due to the checkpoints. i was so happy when i read that bulacan bought veggies from benguet when they learned about the farmer's problems. now i think the problem is the laguna shutdown.

@hereandthere Residents in Baguio have been given vegetable seeds to plant in their small gardens. What a great idea. Now let's wait for other mayors to follow suit. LOL

@almostoveryou No, it is not super convenient because I like to choose what I buy, but we must respect the law.

@LadyDuck I know what you mean. These days it's the husband who gets the groceries. While he's able to get most items correct, I still prefer to get them myself. It's just me.

I've heard of cases like that. Apparently in Trabajo Market in Manila, they had to close shops because one of the vendors tested positive.

Yes, the ban is due to the virus. So far, there's been no known infections in our community. I can't imagine not having fresh produce either.

I would love to not have to go grocery shopping until this is over, but, I probably will have to get groceries either next week or the week after. I hope you can find what you need.

I went out this morning because we are in lockdown as of Noon and did not get all. I had to go to the pharmacy and did not have lots of time. They said we have to wear masks when go out but I saw those without.

We're still able to get our essentials, thank God. There's no massive hoarding here yet. I might need to go to the wet market in a few days to get fresh fish.
