Some bands are just so good their music will live on. That’s certainly true of Creedence Clearwater Revival, a band that had a very short run but produced so many classic songs that you’d almost believe they had been together for decades. People who weren’t even born when they were together sing along with their hits. This one wasn’t a hit but it made the list. #5: It Came Out of the Sky This song is hilarious. I should just leave it at that, and let you get on with listening and laughing, but I can’t do that. Simple plot: something falls on the property of a farmer named Jody “just south of Moline.” He tells the townsfolk, and next thing you know, everybody is there, with different theories (“Ronnie [Reagan] the populist said it was a communist plot”) and claims of ownership (“the White House said, “put it in the Blue Room,” the Vatican said, ‘No, it belongs to Rome’”). Jody becomes “a national hero,” being interviewed by people like Walter Cronkite and Eric Sevareid. And, as “possession is nine-tenths of the law,” Jody proclaims himself the rightful owner of the object but offers to sell it for $17 million. Have a good laugh from Fogerty and the gang. It Came Out of the Sky Written by John Fogerty From Willy and the Poor Boys, 1969 Couldn’t believe what he’d seen:

It wasn’t ever released as a single (not in America, anyway).

Such a distinctive sound! As soon as the song starts, you know who it is.

Perhaps their most tongue in cheek tune.
