What are your thoughts on Religion?

I'm an Orthodox Christian. I'm not a fanatic, I just think religion has an important role in peoples' lives. It serves as a guidance tool; it is NOT an excuse for the craziness of some, I hate it when people think that all religious people behave themselves as the loudest of the bunch. That goes for any religion. Muslims are ashamed of ISIS and their extreme psychopathic behaviour, which uses muslim religion as an excuse and as a shield, when most muslims do NOT agree with the docrins and the teachings of these crazy, blood-thirsty animals. Same goes for christians: not every priest is a pedophile, and not every christian is an insane racist homophobe. Very few people understand and have delved into the depths and the significant importance of religion in all of our lives. It is obvious now to us what hapens when Man loses faith; he becomes nihilistic, demotivated, self-indulgent, he thinks that nothing has purpose. I was once like that. Thankfully, I started doing my own research, stopped listening to other people, I found new understaning, in which I regained my faith, making it even stronger.

I don't engage in discussing religion on sites like myLot. I know that it leads nowhere. I'm dreaming of a site which doesn't accept posts on religion.

Religion is mankind's attempt to understand God. Since their understanding relies on Beliefs, their true Understanding comes up lacking. Couple that with everybody wants to rule the world and variable results present themselves everywhere. All is not bad. Religion is a catalyst which brings so many of the world's problems to the surface so they can be dealt with. After all, when one thinks they have God's blessing, they can justify anything. Worry not. This is all part of the multilevel classroom we live in. For those who must watch others learning lessons we have already learned, it is just a reminder of what the true answers really are. The advice I give is to Be who you must! It's a part of the plan! Listen to the advice of others but walk your own path! Life's lessons are best learned that way. Since Believing has never ever been important to God, do not allow others to use fear and intimidation to alter your actions. Each person is a Wonderful Work of Art! There is no one like each of us nor will there ever be. Share that which is Special about you with others.

I don’t find anything wrong with religion in general. I am Christian but I do not force it on other people because it isn’t my call to make. People can, and will, believe whatever they want to do. Obviously beliefs and ideology can be forced on people, and it clearly is a lot of the time. How a person acts is more important than what they believe. The religion itself is usually not responsible for the person’s interpretation or actions.

What is the real use of Religion here on this Earth? I would say that religions serve a purpose for God when there are rightful persons within that religion, talking his truths, through his love. Unmatched truth, (i.e. not matched up with love) spouting from the mouth, not the heart, does more damage than anything else, for truth is a two-pronged fork, and it will prick you with both, if the right person is not holding the handle, when it can simply give you the truth as hay for your horse to eat its fill, and so prick your soul awake in you then too. The greatness of anything never depends on the greatness in that thing, because it has no inherent greatness, only potential greatness, when it joins itself to the greatness of God. Live in God, and be great. Live outside of God, only as yourself, be small. Religions can help us to be great in God, by helping us to live in God, through his love, instead of through only ourselves, through non-love, or selfishness, pride, and ego, instead. ( or self-indulgent, as you put it too)

I think all religion have same underlying principles and they all preach to be good and spread love. Unfortunately many misunderstand it and misuse it to mislead people. ISIS and such organization don't belong to any religion.

I agree with your statement that all religions have common underlying principles. But ISIS not belonging to any religion? They constantly kill people "In the name of Allah", and it's disgusting. Using a peaceful religion as an excuse for murder? Absolutely unacceptable

I am Muslim and I believe that Islam is not only a ritual but also good for us. for example, namely fasting, ablution, and many more things that if we do it will improve the quality of our lives. But this is only a side effect of practicing worship, not as our main goal in worship.
