1955 - The polio vaccine, developed by Dr. Jonas Salk, is declared safe and effective.
1932 - Tiny Tim was born. He was an American singer, ukelele player and musical archivist. He was best known for singing "Tiptoe Through the Tullips" in a high falsetto voice. At the age of six he began teaching himself how to play the guitar, at 11 he learned how to play the violin and then learned how to play the mandolin and ukelele. He passed away in 1996.
1946 - Ed O'Neill was born. He is an American actor and comedian. He is best known for playing Ted Bundy on the TV sitcom Married...with Children and Jay Pritchett on Modern Family.
