Any One Else a John Prine Fan?

It's hard to turn on the television without hearing depressing news these days. I felt especially sad when I heard John Prine had been hospitalized with coronavirus. I knew he'd had lung cancer and had part of a lung removed. I also knew he was 73 years old. For days while he was hospitalized I listened to his songs and appreciated them again. I like his lyrics a lot but some of them are so achingly sad they added to the feeling of doom and gloom we were being bombarded with.
My favorite song of his is one called "Spanish Pipe Dream". It's also known as "Blow Up Your TV", and that's what I call it. It's not his best song but the lyrics are right down my allley. It's mostly how I live. It's not a sad song.
I taught this song to all my granddaughters and we sing it together when they come to visit Grandma on her hilltop in the woods. During the time Prine was hospitalized my son-in-law shared a video of his two daughters singing that song for them. That too made me sad because they don't visit now.
John Prine died on April 7th

“I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve.” What a line.
Longtime (43 years) Prine fan. Crushed by the news.

Not really familiar with him but he is after my time--I'm still stuck in the Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, etc., era!

@pjmurphy Have you heard James McMurtry's music? He's the son of Larry McMurtry, who wrote Lonesme Dove, one of my favorite novels of all time. If you haven't I'll send you a couple of links. His humor is even darker than Prine's, but he specializes in sad songs.

I've spent my life "trying to find Jesus on (my) own." Every time I encounter a topless lady, I suspect she has "something up her sleeve." I guess you could say I'm a John Prine fan. Have you heard my version of Hello in There? Ironic that the last two songs with words I've "posted" to YouTube were John Prine songs. I assume you've watched the (Prine) video of "Summer's End." It just makes me cry, plain and simple.
