Short story: When is a secondhand bookshop ever a library? Here it was!

There was a man who owned a secondhand bookshop, and he had several staff working for him too.
He had a problem with a member of staff, who used to "pinch" books from the shelves, and take them home with him to read, but he would return them, after he had read them.
This presented a problem for Herman, as when a customer asked for a certain book, that he knew that he had in his stock, it was sometimes not now there, but it would mysteriously turn up again a week, or two later.
Herman found this out eventually, from the other staff member, telling him what was happening, about the other guy "borrowing" books from him.
He told his staff member that he could continue to do this, but to just write down a list of the books taken home, so that he will know where they are, if he is asked by someone in store, for that particular book.
All went well after that, as Alan, the staff member, was religious in his writing accurately his list of books taken home for Herman, and from Herman’s point of view, a staff member who had read books, and could recommend them to potential buyers, was good for his store too.
Herman could have stopped this practice, and reprimanded his staff member, but his conciliatory approach was a win-win for everyone here, for himself, his staff member, and for customers too.
Such a win-win is possible in every situation. There really is no such thing as a lose-lose, or even a lose-win, or win-lose.
A win-win always can be created when we look at the other person's position, with our hearts, rather than with the inflexibility of our minds.

They're a handful of them. They never bite. Let's be considerate about them.

Yes, generally it's good to be considerate of all people, I think too.

@amitkokiladitya Hopefully, everyone is on the plan to become good, though, over time.
Some people God has seemingly appointed to show us what is possible right now.
These are the great ones, in our midst, sometimes living in the background, sometimes, more visible, sometimes, we can recognise them, sometimes we can not..
I cannot see God as making anyone bad.
Ignorance, or some other form of selfishness, greed, or having excess pride, blots out the good in us, and fills us with our own wants, and desires, instead of us always pitching in for the good of the common good.

Yes, in our lives we should strive for win-win relationships at every level.
However, we have a few who want to win at others' cost.
It is more of one upmanship, - they want to win but make every effort for others to lose in the bargain - siva

Yes, they do not yet realise, that when anyone person loses, overall, we all lose.
We only move ahead collectively, when we are all winning, and coordinatingly moving each other forwards supportedly, cooperatively, together too

@Shiva49 Yes, serving others is the greatest form of love. Living from such love minimises karma creation too.

@innertalks The greatest reward, in terms of self-satisfaction, comes from service to humanity, hand-holding those in need. Selfish acts are anathema to a healthy society.
The law of karma kicks in all the time: "I do believe in karma and one day, it will get to you. You will someday feel what I felt. You will one day experience what you did to me" is a quote that drives home the message loud and clear - siva

what a very good article. I was trying to guess the end of it but i was wrong. if businessmen have this thought, they can have a good working relationship with their employees.
and for ordinary people, if they have this though in any agreement they have, conflict can be avoided.

Thanks. I wrote a pretty good story then, if you could not pick the ending...lol...
What are the secrets of relating to other people?
In a word, love, consider the other's position, at all times.
But why would we want to do that?
Because love cares enough to want to do this.
We should always love others as best we can.
We allow the wisdom and motivation to love to build in ourselves from our keeping close to God, to love, or to our hearts, rather than our adhering too rigidly to the rulebooks, the prejudices, and to other negatively engineered responses in our minds.

Yes, and a good bookshop employee is honing his book knowledge at all times.
Most of the in-depth knowledge comes to you from your customers. These collectors know so much, having researched in their own area of book-lore, for many years.
