Visited, from a safe distance, my neighbor that lost his wife two years ago yesterday. He just turned 80. And now lives alone. His children are all grown with families. They visit every now and then.
He always grows tomatoes and shares from his garden. When I visited earlier, he was planting flowers around the memorial tree for his wife. And had some tomato plants as well. He told me not to buy tomatoes, he would make sure we had plenty.
Such a nice neighbor. Good to see him with a smile. And I also saw a few tears as he said he couldn't believe she's been gone two years now. He said it seems like a lifetime.
But, all in all, he seemed in good spirits. He was happy in his garden. It was good to see him a few minutes.
The photo are the flowers I sent to his wife a few days before she passed with cancer. We all have to enjoy each moment we have.

That made me sad that he still misses his wife even after 2 years.

@CarolDM this reminds me of my parents who were married for more than 60 years when my mother passed away. It was fortunate that my father was able to overcome the grief that he lived for 5 more years.

That was very nice of you to visit your neighbor. I'm sure he appreciated the interaction, even if it was from a distance. Sorry to hear about his wife, but it's nice that he has a memorial tree to keep her memory alive. It was also nice of you to send those flowers several years ago. I hope you enjoy the tomatoes he gives you!

@CarolDM That is nice that you visit with him. It probably helps him avoid too much loneliness.

@CarolDM This post made me tear up. I'm so sorry for your neighbour's loss. He sounds like a very sweet man. It was lovely of you to remember her anniversary.
The flowers are so beautiful! And very thoughtful of you too.

You are sweet. It is hard to get through grief. I visit him when I see him in his yard. He is very sweet. I can never forget his lovely wife, we were very close. She said she always wanted flowers while she was alive, don't wait unlit I die. She joked about that the entire time I knew her. So she got them.
