Un-welcome signs for hopeful tourists

In Japan, it is "Golden Week", a week in which a number of holidays fall, so many people go to their "furusato" (home town) or sightseeing. However, this year there are no welcoming signs. It is being called "Stay Home week" by the government. Nonetheless, there are some folk who think they will be alone if they go sightseeing now.
Driving into some prefectures, there are roadblocks saying "If you are not from here, turn around now and go home." They even have a convenient U-turn place for cars to go around. Bicycle riders found a sign on the entrance to a quiet mountain trail: "This is not the time for you to ride a bicycle. It is a time for you to go home. Go home now."
It is so very unlike Japan to be unwelcoming, but right now the virus is definitely not welcome anywhere in the country and they are trying their hardest to keep foolish people from bringing their city coronavirus to the country. I hope it works.
In spite of that, there have been a lot of people out in parks and such, and they should know better. As our governor Ms. Koike says, "In two weeks we will know how well everyone did on stay-home week."
If you are not in lockdown, can you travel to nearby cities and prefectures (states)?

Apparently some do. My friends who live near the river that has a flat area where people picnic says there were lots of people there yesterday. My neighborhood folks don't go far though. Last night there was a family who owns the vegetable market having a barbecue on the parking spot (concrete belonging to them) in front of their shop.

@petatonicsca I wonder how these people are gathering strength to do all this. Or maybe I'm the one who is a way too scared

I would not even want to think about traveling anywhere during this time. We've been watching NHK at times . . . I know it's been so hard for the pandemic team there. They were saying it was hard to get the public to listen because there are no laws to enforce their recommendations. I think of the old enka songs my parents listen to - quite a few about "furusato".

@petatonicsca Ah, that is interesting . . . I have actually not thought of the impact of female leaders in Japan. Now I'd like to discuss that with my parents

Exactly. The government can only make "suggestions." Mind you, when I listen to the governor of Tokyo and her motherly style, I really want to do what she says (as opposed to some of the men in charge of the country).

I'm sure Japan is still struggling with the Olympics being postponed. I really hope for their economy's sake the virus is under control by next year.
My state just partially opened. No sightseeing things are open, but restaurants are open although you have to wear people far apart, and sanitize sanitize sanitize.

We can only travel within our geographical region (which is quite extensive) but we are encouraged to stay at home as much as possible.

I really think that is a good thing. We can't isolate the greater Tokyo area from each other (seven prefectures) but at least we don't have to take our germs to Kyoto or Kobe or Kyushu.

Good for you. And the way things are going, it may be the year after next, but I hope not.
