I recently got an email from a fella I'd done some speaker restoration work for. Actually I think it started about ten years ago when I sold him a beautiful pair of Dynaco A-25 loudspeakers (on eBay) for about $300, a premium price. He was happy with my work, and send me several vintage stereo speakers over the years for restoration. I always "undercharged" him, sent the speakers back to him, and had email conversations with him about which speaker we liked best. At a certain point he sent me a Dynaco Stereo 120 power amplifier that had been "modded" to sound better than it had in its original state. He said it was just to thank me for the work I'd put into the various speakers I'd restored for him over the years. I still use it. Recently, he emailed me and asked me for advice about restoring a pair of Klipsch speakers that had come into his hands. I spent about 45 minutes giving him detailed instructions about what I would do to make the speakers "perfect." Have you met certain people your life who are honorable, honest, noble, thankful, and just generally good? What do you think makes them that way?

@TheHorse I am a very honest and upfront person. I have known some people who were not so hononible.

So most of the people you meet do not have true "integrity"? Do you know why that is?

I think there are many really good people in this world and I think that what makes them genuinely find people is that they have a good heart and soul.

They appreciate kind gestures, and they want to do the same toward you.

Just generally good. I think most people we have in our circle of friends fit the bill. Empathy, they have loads of empathy,

How long does to take to establish trust?

@wolfgirl569 But I've found myself disappointed over time in some instances. I think it takes time, and experiences in many situations, to establish real trust.

I dont know, but those are the kind of people who need to be treasured, because time with them is always uplifting, rather than exhausting

Didn't you just answer your own question? Maybe because they are - and I quote - honorable, honest, noble, thankful, and just generally good - unquote.

@TheHorse Thank you for the compliment. I guess if we are, it's probably thanks to our upbringing. We both had 'older' parents who were well steeped in honesty and kindness.

People of integrity are gems for sure. What makes them that way, great question. We all choose how we will live our lives, if we will be honorable or dishonorable, honest or a liar, noble or unsophisticated, thankful or ungrateful.

I think a part of it involves how we were treated as we were "coming up."

@Dena91 And you've succeeded in being more similar to your grandparents than your parents? That's encouraging to me. As you know, I've worked with many kids whose family lives were screwed up. I want to believe that I've had a positive effect on them. But then sometimes I sit and stir my Scotch and wonder if it's all futile.

@TheHorse Trust me your work isn't futile. Kids know when someone truly loves, cares for them. Keep doing what you are doing. When they are older they will remember you and the love and care you showed them. Hopefully they will draw on those memories and go on the right path, make good choices.

Yes, I have a friend of over 50 years who is all of those things. That's just the way she is. She's also outgoing and loud and used to embarrass me all the time; but I love her! Nice job on the speakers.

Nice job on the speakers. I have met only a few people like this, and I treasure them like gems. We are all wired differently, as you know. The good eggs, to quote another member, are hard to find, hold onto them when you do.
