As I was sitting here at my laptop early in the evening, I heard something.
Chirp!
Then I heard it again.
Chirp!
I got up and went to investigate.
Chirp!
It sounded like it was coming from the bedroom.
Chirp!
Directly above the bed.
Chirp!
The smoke alarm!
Chirp!
I am going to call building management tomorrow so that they can send someone here from maintenance to replace the battery in the smoke alarm.
Chirp!
I will not be able to sleep in the bedroom with all that incessant chirping!!

I know it would drive me crazy if I were to try to sleep in the same room with the chirping of the smoke alarm!

I had a mechanical ding somewhere in my house the other day. It sounded like once when I had a battery-operated clock/timer and the batteries ran down. Drove me nuts for weeks until I located it in the drawer, still beeping occasionally.

I bet you were so glad to discover that you were not as nutty as you thought!

The thoughtless installers that put my smoke alarms in, put one in the kitchen. It goes off ear-piercingly every time that we cook.
That's even worse than the chirping.
The battery wears out so quickly then too, it needs replacing every 6 months, or so.
It is too hard to change the battery though, you need to be an Einstein to work it out, so I also put up with the chirping every few minutes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
I have even bought two birds I keep in the kitchen now to mask the noise a bit.
See photo of one of my chirpers, my other chirper.

I no longer have to put up with the chirping. The battery has been replaced.
My Grandma Tracy had parakeets. She taught them to say certain words. When I was a little girl, I thought they were so cute .

Not yet. I have called management to have them send someone to replace the battery. Hope they will be here some time today.
