I had trouble with a plate.

Seeing this book reminds me of the time when I thought I would have a go at selling stuff on Ebay. I had been looking around a shop that sold second hand goods and I came across a Poole Pottery plate. It was being sold at an affordable price so I brought it hoping that I could sell it for a profit.
So I put it on Ebay and I got some bids on it. But as I was new to selling things on Ebay I messed up with the cost of it and did not include postage and packing. My plate did sell , but I did not make any money on it because of my mistake. This put me off selling on Ebay because it was a lot of hassle, but I did get some good feedback from the person who brought it and they said that it was well packaged.

Was it modern or traditional Poole Pottery?
I spent all my early life in Poole, including my entire education up to A-level, and regularly cycled past the Pottery. My mother, who spent her whole life (bar her final year) in Poole (she lived to be nearly 104) had some very nice pieces of "old style" Poole Pottery that my sister is now looking after.

It was an Aegean plate about the size of a dinner plate. It would have been made in the 1970s. Poole looks like a lovely place, but I think the factory is closed now.

@lazydaizee Modern then! Yes - the pottery closed in Poole some time ago but "Poole Pottery" is still being made - in Staffordshire!

@indexer I always believed that the idea of these local potteries was for the makers to use local clay. Our local pottery was Aldermaston Pottery , but that has closed too.

What sort of things did you sell on Ebay? Our postage costs went up too some time ago and I think this is what put many people off, both sellers and buyers. Although saying that, I still buy quite a lot from Ebay when I cannot find what I want in my local shops, and then I go for free postage options. But then I expect the seller has already added it to the price .

It certainly was. It was also quite nerve wracking sending a plate through the post because I was worried that it would get broke and then the buyer would want their money back.

Everything that goes wrong teaches us something for life. So take it as a learning experience
