Lockdown Crafts

I've been doing some things. i had neglected some (OK, all) of my hobbies. I decided to work on a cross-stitch project (the one in the picture). It took about 12 hours to make (not including the design). The plan for that is to get an acrylic photo frame, with the idea that our daughter can add a picture the other side of our granddaughter celebrating her 1st birthday.
I also treated myself to a new pyrography pen and some wood. I'd done pyrography/pokerwork and several other woodwork things (mostly fretwork). I'd only really used a soldering iron for pokerwork - which is fine for some things but not for making pictures like the ones I've put in the picture here. I'd also been working on some knitting - I think I was making a hat but it might turn into something else.
I have been working from home, and have lots of other things to do if work is not busy. I just decided it was time to get back into some other things I enjoy, and to make sure I finished something! I have no idea what I plan to do with the wooden things (maybe use them as coasters, mayne get a big piece of wood or perspex frame to display them, I don't know). Along with my pyrography pen, I bought a couple of books. There are a few projects in them (one with really basic beginner projects, the other with gradually more advanced). I'd like to do one of the advanced projects so I'm going to need lots of practice.
I've also made a start on another cross-stitch project. I wanted to do a polar bear (using a similar design to the one in the picture) but I couldn't work out how to transfer the design. Instead, I did a house with a garden, some trees, and the words 'home is where the tea is'. I sat in the garden this evening to work on that. Husband has asked me to do him a couple of cross-stitches based on the Fallout computer game so I might need some more materials for that. He's been mostly pottering about, doing housework, and playing computer games (which is pretty standard for him). Youngest son (Mini) has been drawing computer game characters, doing school work, making videos, and playing computer games.
There are a few birthdays coming up, which look like they're going to be 'lockdown' birthdays. Husband's is near the end of this month, then my big sister's at the beginning on June, and Mini's two week's after that.
We were supposed to be going away for a few days for husband's birthday. We have done that every year for 5 years. We had planned the trip to include a visit to eldest son (Midi). He's not there, though, as he came back to his dad's so he wasn't on his own. He should have been visiting us over Easter but that couldn't happen. Hopefully, we'll still be able to have our summer holiday at the end of August. We haven't seen Midi since January, and we haven't seen our daughters and granddaughters since our wedding in October. If we don't see the girls in August, it could be another year before we get a chance again.
For sister's birthday, she and I had booked tickets to see Rich Hall (comedian) at a local venue. The venue's website says it's still going ahead but we're keeping an eye out as it's likely to get cancelled/rescheduled.
As for Mini's birthday, he never really wants to do anything anyway. He'll be happy to just spend the day with his computer games (especially if he has new ones for his birthday).
That's what's happening with us. How have you all been keeping yourselves occupied? Have you missed any significant events or had to cancel something you'd been looking forward to for a long time?

Thank you. Some people use a soldering iron for pyrography, also called poker work (that's what my dad calls it). The comedian has been rescheduled until next year but we are now able to see people so my sister might be able to do something with a few of us.

@pumpkinjam I'm sorry he had to be rescheduled. I'm sure you'll have fun whatever you do.

Thank you. At least you could still get there, although I suppose it is a much longer journey!

Cool! Nice to meet another cross stitcher. I've been doing a lot of cross stitching, reading, and attempting to sell things on ebay--then walking my dog and a bit of housework.
Love the bear coaster.

Thanks for the compliment
I considered trying to sell stuff but I'm too lazy!

Thanks for the update and the picture of your pretty craft projects. Nothing going on here. Had a couple of doctors' appointments by telephone; and my husband had a video chat today for his appointment. We have a September trip that we've been planning for some time. We'll see if we can go or not if this virus is done by then.

I hope that your appointments all went well. I also really hope that you are able to go on your trip in September. Thank you for saying that my projects are pretty. These are some of my better ones!
Some of my colleagues were talking about getting back into the office later this month (possibly as early as next week) but we haven't heard anything official. If they try to make us do that, my argument will be, quite simply, that if it is not yet safe for me to visit my children then it is not yet safe for me to be back in the office!

@pumpkinjam I agree. Things are moving along too fast. The virus is still not under control.
