Sometimes you just can't ignore things that jump out at you. Or, at least, I can't. There it was, a small sign near the Wolf Creek Dam, where I stopped for a refreshing walk on the way home from my trip to Tennessee recently. DANGER: WATER MAY RISE RAPIDLY WITHOUT WARNING. Um..... Isn't that a warning???? Yes, I know what it means (the Army Corps of Engineers releases water whenever it feels like it, without consulting anyone on the lake or river). But it just struck me as kind of funny....having a warning sign that says there's no warning. Oh well, we return you now to your regularly-scheduled signs. Oh, and of course, there's a song for that:

Hells yeah that is a warning. See you in one of those states where people just expect that type of thing. Why no one takes it seriously. They have a sign in California like Flash floods happen here I am running for the hills if just see a cloud. Its no joke that stuff will get you killed.

I’ve seen videos of the flash flooding out west, and it more than lives up to its name. I’ve never seen a flood come up that quickly around here. (But, i do live in a city with all that sophisticated sewer stuff....)
Huge flash flood rips down Johnson Canyon with major debris plug from up near the Bryce Canyon area, including massive pine trees and other debris from the h...

perhaps it is dependent on the number of fisherpeople peeing off their boats...

Just fishermen. I wrote a discussion a few years ago about how sexist fishing boats are, because there’s no way for the women to pee off the sides of the boat without falling overboard.

Depends on how much water they release from the dam, I guess. I've been to dams where they have sirens that go off before the water is released (there were warning signs and siren notification signs at one dam in Tennessee). Apparently this one didn't have the sirens.

I can't swim, so that sort of warning would scare the living daylights out of me. It would be, consider me warned!!

The sign was put up to preclude any form of liability. How should the sign have been written instead?

Given that the Army Corps of Engineers runs it, it should be governmental.... “We do what we want, when we want.”

Yes, they are warning you that danger lurks at any time, but not always, only some times...maybe.

If you saw the Wolf Creek movies, that is warning enough to avoid anyplace called Wolf Creek.

Yeah, a warning tells no warning, it is contradictory. But i think it's kind necessary to let people know about the situation.
