Guess what we found down the paddock

We have had several days of wind and rain. Just before it started, we lost our new drone. I’ve written about it. It got out of range and landed about 30 ft up in a tree. We were able to see the lights from it on the first evening but hadn’t been able to locate it since. We were hoping maybe the wind would blow it down and sure enough, when we went down this afternoon, Vince found it lying on the ground. And in even better news, it is undamaged and still operational. I think we’ve been incredibly lucky - firstly to find it and then for it to be undamaged. It’s quite a creepy looking object though, isn’t it?

@JudyEv I'm glad it is. It must be made stronger than it looks.

@just4him It has a little framework round the blades which probably helped save its life.

@JudyEv It's an impressive looking bit of kit. It would be great up in the hills near my house. I think Mrs WorDazza would find other more useful things to spend the money on though.

It does. I like the protection round the blades. That's probably what saved it.

@DocAndersen I do realise I hope that it's ours as it got stuck up a tree and we had to wait for some strong winds to dislodge it.

@JudyEv some friends in the movie industry have drones. They told me about the durability because they know I planned to buy.

Even thought they seem like cheap, flimsy plastic toys, they are actually made to be quite durable. How nice that you were able to retrieve it! Guess all that wind wasn't a bad thing after all.

@JudyEv The manufacturer must have sealed the electronic components inside the frame really well, if it still works with all that water that got in it. Does the camera still work as well? A lot of times moisture will get behind the lens and fog it up, and even though it may still work it becomes difficult to see anything until such time as all that moisture evaporates from inside the components. Happy Mother's Day Judy!

That was our only hope - that the wind would blow it free. And you're right - they must be quite durable. There was water draining out of the body of it when we picked it up but it's functioning properly now.
