Things my grandparents always said to me...(and my parents and so on)

when the door closes the window opens it is something my grandmother and grandfather used to say to me all the time. I always responded with what if the door closed on your foot? That got me thinking about the things people say. Lock the gate, keep honest people honest. (i always wondered about that one, you are only honest if the gate is closed). Surely my parents and grandparents were not the only ones with these wonderful gems...

My parents and grandparents never gave me words of wisdom...except for "I'll give you something to cry about!" :-)

It seemed like my Mom's favorite thing to say was, Do as I say not as I do or Wait until your Father gets home. I always said I never say that to my kids and I didn't.

@DocAndersen I would always think that I couldn't wait to be an adult and do what I want.

@simone10 and then we found out all the things our parents did we never knew about. Who knew someone had to make hard decisions about do we pay the mortgage or do we eat.

My Mom - This too shall pass. If I come over there and find it, I am going to give you a kick in the pants. - My Mom's response to us not making the effort to find things. My Dad - It is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.

My mother would say that the only think a locked door (not gate) did was keep an honest man honest. And have you noticed yourself starting to quote your parents?
