It's the dog you're supposed to get back, not the collar!

Our dog wears a collar that has a tag attached with our address and phone number on it. I took her for her usual walk in the fields earlier today and everything was as normal, or so I thought.
She did what she usually does - sniffed in the undergrowth, chased a few birds, demanded treats for being good, played with a few other dogs and had a paddle in the stream to cool off on the way back.
However, about an hour or so after we got back, the phone rang. A man said that he had found a dog collar with our number on it. He very kindly drove round from his house and left the collar on the brick pillar outside our front door, from where I retrieved it and re-attached it to the dog.
The idea of having the tag on the collar is that you can get your dog back if she runs off and gets lost - but getting the collar back is every bit as welcome!

@m_audrey6788 Another reason for being glad to get it back is that she has a "bug" attached to the collar that records her activity. This gives a daily report on how much exercise she has had in various categories - running, walking and "pottering".

@indexer my bostie was impossible to keep a collar on, if he went out, it was in a harness. He was also chipped, and the harness had tags

@Jessicalynnt Okami has a harness - I wouldn't dream of attaching her lead to a collar. However, it is a legal requirement in the UK for dogs to wear a collar in public places, so both are necessary. And she does have a microchip.
