This one was found from the same paper, The Newberry Herald of February 26th, 1879. This paper served the citizens of Newberry, South Carolina
I do wonder what BBLS is supposed to stand for.
At that time, lime would have been used for more than just garden or burial. They would have also put it down inside a privy / outhouse, though they might have also used ashes from a fire for that as well.
Aren't you glad we don't have to do our business in an outhouse anymore?

Oh, so some families still use an outhouse instead of indoor plumbing?

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, millions do. It can be mostly seen in villages.

@Sojourn Oh. Have you ever used an outhouse?

I don't think I could manage it either. I've heard horror stories of it. I think I would have sooner gone in the chamber pot, but I don't know what I would have done about the other bodily function.

I’ve actually used an outhouse several times. I didn’t care for it.

From the stories I've heard, I wouldn't either.

Indoor plumbing is something I'm glad they invented. I've used an outhouse a few times in my life and it was no fun. Guess you won't be surprised when I say I'm not a camper

Even primitive camp sites now have bathroom and shower facilities. Probably not all of them, but yeah.
I've never used an outhouse, but I have used a portapotty and those can stink up! No danger noodles, but still!

@ScribbledAdNauseum I didn't realize that even primitive campsites have the luxury of bathroom and showers. Good to know but I'm still happy to stay in a hotel somewhere and not going to rough it anytime soon.

@Marilynda1225 I understand, camping isn't for everyone. My ex boyfriend told me once "We should go camping." His idea of camping is to take his camper. It's all well and good, but that's not my idea of camping.

I couldn't handle an outhouse. I can hardly handle public restrooms.

I try to avoid public restrooms myself. I prefer when they have the sheet protector.
It would be nice if they provided disinfectant wipes that a person could use to disinfectant the seat before sitting, don't you think?

@ScribbledAdNauseum DEFINITELY. I liked the Chicago airport. They had a seat protector that changed automatically when you flushed. Very sanitary.
