Sweaty and Humid, But Fun!!!

Folks enjoying a kayak ride on Floyds Fork. The creek was closed shortly after this photo was taken due to the high water. Photo taken by and the property of FourWalls.

Today I went to one of the parks in the group of recreational areas known as the Parklands of Floyds Fork. There are a number of parks there: Beckley Creek (where I spent most of my time), Pope Lick, the Strand, Turkey Run, and Broad Run Park are individual parks but all managed by the nonprofit organization that owns the Parklands. That's right, it's private, not a "city" park or government-owned. We actually have a few of those around here (the main one being Bernheim Forest just south of Louisville). After lunch today I went for a walk along the swollen Floyds Fork in Beckley Creek Park. It was humid, and I was quite sweaty from the humidity, but oh, was it fun! After all this lockdown it was an absolute joy to see people outside, walking their dogs, being with their families, and just enjoying life. (I hope that's one of the things this has taught us: live in the present!) We had over an inch of rain overnight, so the creek was quite high (as you can see by the photo). In fact, after I got home I saw on the Parklands' web site that they had to close the creek to kayakers because it was too high, and the current made things dangerous. (And yes, a little creek can be quite dangerous: someone died when they fell out of their kayak on Floyds Fork several years ago.) The threat of rain held off, which was good because the humidity got me wet enough. What an enjoyable day!
