Symbolism

I had never heard of `Symbolism' until I got this book in a big box of reference books that I brought at auction a few years ago. Now I have looked through the book I am interested in this sort of art , but I cannot say that I understand it. This book is full of paintings of weird looking people, in weird situations and some are dressed in strange clothes , if they are wearing any. Apparently there are hidden meanings in the artwork and what looks strange to me would make sense to somebody who understand Symbolism.

I wouldn't understand much of these artworks either.

@lazydaizee I read lots of interesting things but then forget about what I've read after a week or two.

@JudyEv It is a good job we have left school and do not need to remember information to pass exams.

They are very complicated to understand with all their hidden meanings. Fortunately the text in this book is very good at explaining it all. But if you are anything like me, you will forget it all after you have read it, unless a particular painting really inspires you for some reason.

I like when there is hidden meaning in art. Or metaphor. But not if it's too obscure for me to get.

It is good if you understand this sort of artwork, but I am afraid that it is beyond me.
