Cool masks

Japan

Are you worried that wearing a mask in the summer will be hot and uncomfortable? Don't worry, South Korea has you covered. A company in South Korea is taking pre-orders (from Japan anyway) of something called "coolmask" that is made from finely woven polyester. It looks very much like the material that we use for sports outfits in the summer. They are planning to ship during the first week of June, which is plenty of time since most of Japan is in the cool rainy season and won't be getting super hot until mid-July. I'm thinking of ordering one. They would dry quickly so I could alternate between that one and a cotton one I made. Either that or I will use the pattern I've been using and find some of that material (maybe even from a piece of clothing I no longer am using.) It's not a problem I had thought of before!

It is summer here so we had to wash the face mask after using because of the sweat.

I seem to have several wet washed masks on the line most of the time. I'm still using my old cheap ones or folded handkerchief or ones I sewed from an old T-shirt, so I have enough for this kind of weather.

@petatonicsca we have a pile of new masks but we are keeping it in reserve. If the pandemic lasts for long then at least we would have face masks.

It's cheaper than from Japan, right now it is selling for under a thousand yen (about 8-9 dollars) and delivery is free. Other ones online are at least 1.5 that amount and most are twice to three times that amount (including the kinds we had last year in every store for cheap.)

@petatonicsca wow but i think when it comes to international shipping, it is expensive. By the way, I love everything about Japan, except sushi and sashimi as I don't eat raw foods. But Japanese people are very nice and polite.

Since many people do not like wearing masks, I have always wondered how they would survive wearing them in summer as it gets very hot here. I'll have to look up "ccolmask" . . . please give us a review when you get them!

Who would ever have thought that face masks would become a fashion statement. And now I don't know whether to put a smiley or a sad face.

You can do it yourself if you have that type of cloth.

I know, and I may just stick to folded-handkerchief masks during the summer, as they are kind of cool. I actually have a "cool scarf" from last year that I think is made of the same type material. I can experiment with that and if I like it I can buy another one at the hundred yen store (dollar store, Daiso) and cut it up to make probably three masks.

That sounds great. Most of my colleagues including me also complain about the uncomfortability in wearing the masks. I hope we'll have something like that too.

That is a smart idea for a mask.
