We Kicked the Habit!

What habit you may say? Sodas! The doctor has been after both me and especially my husband to quit drinking soda. My husband has been addicted to diet cokes for years.
He couldn't get through the day without drinking 1 to 2 2-liters of diet coke. I was more reserved but still liked to drink a diet coke every now and then. I averaged one or two a day.
When the quarantine started and supplies started disappearing from the supermarket shelves, diet coke was one of the products that went away for awhile in our area. I was okay and made tea and drank water. My hubby had no choice but to do the same.
On my next shopping trip I picked up a couple of boxes of the powdered drink mixes that you mix with a bottle of water. They had Orange Crush and different flavors of tea. Those were popular for a couple of weeks and then my hubby discovered that water wasn't so bad after all.
We have both been soda free since mid March now. I am hoping that this sticks and becomes the new routine. I do know that he has ordered Diet Coke when he eats whenever he is a work. Since this is just a couple days out of the month, not a worry.
I'm happy we have done this and even more happy that he has stuck with this. Have you been able to kick a bad habit during the COVID-19 quarantine?

I've never been into fizzy drinks.
The diet ones are possibly worse for you than the full sugar ones. Because they're sweet and have no calories they make you crave the calories that are missing so you end up consuming more calories throughout the day.

That is awesome you kicked the soda habit. I'm eating fewer snacks. I have a stockpile of them that I don't intend to buy again. They're paleo compatible, but I don't want to eat them any longer. On those occasions when I need to up my sodium, usually not a problem, I do have those to fall back on as snacks tend to be high in sodium.

@wolfgirl569 It will be time to throw them out soon as the expiration date will be up. I'll never forget the year the salesman gave my daughter extra Diet Cokes and Cokes. She was so happy until we started opening them and they all tasted BAD. Looked on the bottles and they were all expired. .

@kareng I am to the point now where I can have it in the house and not even think about it. But 3 twelve packs last winter at a dollar each. Still have almost 2 of them. But I didnt keep it in the house for over a year making sure I had the habit kicked.

I don't know why people can't do away something but when time comes they are obliged to abstain from it.

You kicked the habit and I've just restarted. I never gave up sodas completely. But for a while there I was not drinking sodas very much. Lately I have had a hankering for my Coca Cola or any kind of cola. I'll take the generic. But I prefer the original. I'm like ... I've reached 60+ years. I sacrificed eating and drinking a lot of stuff over the years. Now I'm going to indulge in my guilty pleasures a little bit. I earned it!

@cmoneyspinner No not really! I like both of them but find Sprite more thirst quenching.

@kareng - Sprite or Seven Up? LOL. It's funny. People will actually argue about Coke or Pepsi and insists on making a distinction. I watched a comedy skit one time and the guy in the restaurant was trying to order a Coke and the waiter yells "NO COKE! Pepsi!"
But hardly anybody cares whether they drink Sprite or Seven Up. Ever hard anybody argue over those two?

I have a Diet Classic Coke Caffeine Free every once and a while and always order a Diet Coke if we go out to eat. It might total 2-3 a month. I have not snacked since we went into lockdown on March 19.

I only drink sodas during special occasions. I cannot let go of drinking coffee sadly.

That's fantastic - well done to you both! I decided to stop drinking soda over three years ago and have only slipped a few times in the past. But for the most part, I don't miss it.

Congrats to both of you! You'll likely see several benefits. I'm trying to drink more water to help with migraines.
