Are hair salons open yet where you live?

My mom called me today and told me that her hair stylist opened his salon already and she went to get her hair done. Everyone was wearing masks.
I was shocked to hear this and for a few reasons. One, I had no idea hair salons are now allowed to be open. Two, that my mom actually went when she doesn't even go grocery shopping to stores, as far as I know. Three, how can you practice social distancing in the hair salon?
Wonder if my salon is open already... But even if it is, I am not sure I wanna go there for the time being. Better safe than sorry. And I am okay with not having my hair be blown out and it being messy. Though washing it is frustrating as I don't have a thing that traps hair and end up having to close the drain, wash my hair, take all the hair out floating in the tub, and then drain. And then finally shower. It's very exhausting.

@nawala123 You can't physically distance all people in the hair salon. The person doing your hair is gonna be right next to you and so is the person washing your hair.

Yes, this week they have opened. I have an appointment on Weds. They are doing proper social distancing.

I know in my area they where planning on it. But I didn’t fallow your to see if they did since I’m not planning on going to get my hair done I’ve been doing it at home since it’s a bit cheaper that way.

@lovebuglena it’s just expensive going to salon I haven’t gone since before my 3rd was born. My husband has trimmed my hair at home. I like my hair long so I just color it as I want to.

If you can do your own hair, or have someone who can do it for you at home, no point in going to the salon.

@ShyBear88 Yeah, doing hair for a woman is not cheap at all. I cannot do my own hair myself so have no choice but to go to the salon.

@DianneN I read something online where a hair stylist was sick, and kept going to work, and infected a lot of people. That is crazy!

Already open here and most of them are working much longer hours and are overbooked until who knows when.
I am going to wait also for a while.
I just hope that they can keep their things going for which they have worked so hard mine is doing overtime big time as she can only have two people in at the most and the rest have to wait outside for the moment its like that.

I am surprised that salons are opening because you can't really practice social distancing. I came across some article that said a hair stylist had covid-19 and kept working and taking clients and got a huge number of people sick.

Yes, they finally opened last Wednesday and my husband could not wait to have his haircut. He hadn't had one in 4 months because we were in lockdown - the longest time between haircuts he'd ever had to wait.

@lovebuglena My husband did at one point consider having me watch a few YouTube videos to cut his but I discouraged him. I don't know the first thing about cutting hair LOL It's such a shame that your mum did everyone else's hair but had to wait - but I'm sure she was happy to do it :)

That is a pretty long time. My mom cut my dad's hair. She is pretty good doing that. Sometimes she cuts her (male) friend's hair as well. But her own she had to wait to be able to do it in the salon.

I have a lot of gray. I need to color and perhaps trim. Good thing for me is that I do that at a "home" salon as my hair stylist does everything in her house, which is smart. But not sure if she takes clients yet. Perhaps I should hold off anyway. The gray doesn't bother me much.

@nawala123 I know that. I meant what makes them different that one can be open and the other cannot. If barbershops are allowed to be open so should hair salons.

Nah, still closed here in Scotland and most likely will be for some time.
They will do a roaring trade when they open, even at reduced capacity.
Wonder how much prices will go up by?

I wouldn't be surprised if prices go up since demand for hair cuts and such will be very high. Though it is wrong to do.

The hair salons are already open in my city. This is why a few weeks ago I finally had a haircut and dyed my hair. I bought an electric hair clippers so that we can have a haircut for our son at home. I am glad it works well

Yeah. I am not planning to go anytime soon. But not even sure they are going. My uncle told me salons weren't supposed to be open yet and was shocked when I told him that my mom went there yesterday to get her hair done.

I don't know about Kentucky. I think they're still closed (which makes me wonder where the governor who's mandating them to be shut down is getting his hair cut!). Tennessee's opened last month, and that's where I got my hair cut. Indiana salons are also open now (by appointment).

I have to find out if in NYC all salons are open now or if only select locations... I won't be going to one anyway but just curious. I used to blow out my hair at a Chinese hair salon. But color and cut I used to go to a hair stylist who does hair at home. I wonder if she is taking clients now.

@lovebuglena Most parts of Michigan are letting up on the strict regulations. Other states have removed the lock down, but still enforce social distancing.
