Today's Project: Potting Plants

I didn't get very much out of the ordinary done today. We had thunderstorms rolling in around 3 pm so that cut my time outdoors short.
I took care of the garden, watering seedlings, feeding the chickens and dogs and of course, the humans. then I decided to pot some pecan trees and root some wisteria cuttings. It was the perfect timing because the man will be back on his mad mower in another day or so.
I plan to get a couple more of them up and maybe take them to the flea market. I would think the pecan trees would sell very well. I also want to plant a couple in the yard since these are so old. Then of course, I'll have a new battle on my hands to keep the man from mowing them down.
I may be pushing my luck, but I think I will make an area behind the chicken coops to plant them.

You must have been pretty hungry to eat a dozen pecan trees! How'd they taste?

@andriaperry I have the same problem. At least it provides us all with a little humor!

It was nice this morning, but stormed all this afternoon. Which was just about perfect timing, because I laid some sod in the front yard yesterday evening and hadn't had a chance to water it today. So Mother Nature took care of that for me. At least she waited until after I was done barbecuing on the grill before unleashing all that rain!

What is going on with these daily thunderstorms? The one here today had the light flickering but the cloud managed to scoot on over us without rain today. Now a repeat tomorrow would be mighty fine! I didn't get much extra time today with hubby going to work and fixing an early dinner. Tomorrow is a heavy hitting day.

@moffittjc I know! I said the same thing. They say it is going to be an active hurricane season this year and if what we have already seen is a hint, we just may see some bad hurricanes.

@kareng I don’t know what is going on with everything. There is that stalled system over Texas that is just sitting there spinning. And then the other crazy thing is that we’ve already had 2 tropical storms form and it’s not even hurricane season yet!

Good luck on the man not mowing them down. I have an apple tree that is 6 or 7 years old that has never fruited. Man has run over with the truck and mower both in the past. Poor thing keeps coming back.

Oh wow. Poor tree! How long does it usually take to mature and produce? I thought about trying an apple tree here but it is probably too hot for them. I do want a plum tree though. We had them in our yard as I was growing up and loved to eat plums, green or ripe!

@wolfgirl569 The only ones I've seen around here and that was a long time ago, are wild trees. I may try one! I would have better luck with orange or satsuma/tangerine. I had satsuma and tangerine at our house in Louisiana and the satsumas were always loaded!

@kareng It should have started producing a couple of years after we got it as I bought the biggest I could find. I am not sure how many from sapling up. But this poor thing just doesnt get a chance to. If they are sold in your area they would probably do ok. Most trees are pretty tough

Pecan trees would be very popular. Hope your trees don't get mowed down!

I have been digging 3-4-5-6 up a day. I think I have used up all my pots now until I moves something to the garden. We will see! I do think I have some more pots somewhere. He mowed today so there won't be many left or along fence rows in front or back.

@kareng I suspect that working is part of the problem, we do often forget to water the plants!

I am looking forward to planting one or two here. The pecan trees here are ancient! This house was built in 1860. Each year it is hit or miss with the pecans being good. Since I had my mom here this year, I didn't even make an attempt to pick up pecans. I did get a handful every now and then and eat them though. Most of them were bad so looks like I made a good choice.
