This was clipped from The Abbeville press and banner (Abbeville, S.C.), November 19, 1869
I did not clip the whole thing as it was actually long.
I don't know quite how many people actually trusted banks then, but I am sure plenty kept their money to themselves, and did not trust the bank to keep it for them.

Hah! Good catch! I read it, but hadn't actually thought about it. Most of the time I see maybe 1.4 percent, but even that's a stretch.

I know what you mean @ScribbledAdNauseum I haven't seen more than 1.4% at any bank or credit union.

@rebelann I think I saw 2% a few years ago via an online bank. Ally, I believe. That was a few years ago though.

I am weary of banks, that's for sure. There's one national chain that I no longer trust as they are greedy, dirty little buttheads! I'm sure you could guess who they are as they are no stranger to legal troubles.

6% interest is great! And they took gold deposits.

Right, it's doubtful that banks take those today. You usually have to go to special places for that, unless you are just going to put it in a safety deposit box.
