What would you do if a job position turned out differently than you expected?

Honestly, I cannot stay working in a company if this situation happened to me. I do not want to pull my legs just to work. It would be better to work with enthusiasm and be contented. Some people would continue to work since they need a job. Image Credit: positivepsychology.com

I guess it would depend on whether I liked the job I was doing. If so, I would probably continue doing it. I did have a job where I was supposed to be getting trained to work in a machine shop. Turns out they needed someone to be a janitor. After a week and they had not even shown me the operation of any machine, I moved on to another job, where I actually got to work on the machines. (Lathes, drill presses, and milling machines)

I feel bad when they do this. I had experienced this before and it is not cool. If they just informed you right away before doing this kind of job.

@cperry2 I agree. I just cannot understand why sometimes. I am sure while working with them, you were able to see how to run the machines.

@Shavkat Oh, but then they would not find the people they need to do the job. Trick some unsuspecting young person, and you get the help and maybe in a year or two, you let them start to learn how to run the machines. Or not.

@Shavkat To me it would have to depend on my situation and if I really needed the money and not have anything as a back up so may have to stay at job. I have been in jobs that I hated but no back up so stayed as long as I could till either they told me to leave or I had to quit. Right now I am self -employed but that is not easy either.

I also experienced this before. I stayed with my previous jobs because I do not have a choice. Now, It is easier to work at my own pace.

I can read your mind about this. I do think that we can still do the work if we need it. Of course, it should not be permanent.

I agree with you and it happened with me before 4 years. I know value of my work so if someone use us for their sake is not good. Its better to leave and start something new. Currently there are many people who need job so they cant live because they think about present and we can't sat much as everyone has their choice.

It is not a good feeling to be used by a company. You can also add up those staff that is power trippers because of their high job position titles. With this matter, I am not going to have second thoughts to leave the company.

@birjudanak I had so many experiences like this before. Some companies still practice nepotism. Despite the company is hiring, the job is considered taken because of this old practice,

@Shavkat There are politics also included in some company where they not allow juniors to comes ups as they know they may create trouble. People like to do work with honestly but if they don't care then maybe some people leave.

@Shavkat if a job doesn't interest you or is too stressful then you loose enthusiasm.

Some people can have a job because of personal reasons. A good reason that he or she really needs to have this job to provide for his or her family.

In fact the answer is not so complicated. If there is a choice, such as you can afford it, of course you shall quit the job and then find a job you like. If not, then you have to stick to it until you find a better choice.

I agree. It is best to stay in this job and find another job at the same time. When the time comes, you can easily quit the job and have a new one after.

I am glad that you enjoyed your previous jobs without dealing with these people. It is unlucky for me to have jobs that are not good for me. I must say it needs to be more patient to search for a good one.

I guess it depends on circumstances. If you need the wage, you might continue working even if you didn't like the job much.

It is a good ingredient to stay long in a company and that is to love the job. I know it is hard to have it but it needs to be patient in finding the right one.

It depends on the kind of job but it's only an office or teaching job it can be learned and studied
