We saw gardens!

Yesterday, my friend and I took a bike path walk that took us between suburban back yards. We saw a few cool things, lovely flowers, bougainvillea hanging off of wooden fences, and thunder clouds looming in the distance. But one of the nicest things we saw was lots of small gardens behind houses and apartment communities. People are growing their own sunflowers, corn, green beans, lettuce, and other goodies. We saw one older fella out there tending to one of the plots, and waved at him. Upon our return, we bought a bottle of wine and yapped for an hour before she had to return to real life. Another cool thing is that our timing was perfect. A thunder storm, complete with a 10-minute deluge, started within five minutes of our return from the hike. Do you see community gardens where you live? They are one of the things in life that make me smile.

That sounds like a perfect day. Where I live, those who have gardens are hidden behind their homes.

I saw some on the East Coast near the railroad tracks on Long Island (visiting my Auntie). They always make me smile, no matter where I am.

We live in a suburban town and I can relate to your story about the gardens.

@TheHorse yes, there are residents here with gardens in front of their homes. In our front are 2 banana plants, 1 guava tree and 1 cashew tree.

Germany is full of allotment gardens. They are often near railway tracks where there is no traffic. My grandparents had such a garden, My relatives in the East of Germany have inherited it.

@TheHorse I'm sure you'd be the only tourist coming to Germany to see allotment gardens. :-)

Many of our towns now have community gardens. It's a great idea.

Bougainvillea is a common flower here and we can often see it here. It is a nice decoration for my city when it is blooming.

The yards in our neighborhood are pretty cool . . . they are not huge, but so many have done some wonderful things to their yards - and so diverse too. There is one yard that has "stuff" growing in some bins at top fence level, and one thing that pops out is this huge beautiful Swiss chard . . . well, I should say "was" as it looks like it was recently harvested. Anyway, to pass by that Swiss chard made me smile.

I hope to have sunflowers, corn, and green beans. But I was glad to see other stuff out there where they had more sold to work with.

I should start seeing them soon. There was a news story about them a couple of days ago. Volunteers are putting them together and should have them in place soon.

The houses around here are on an acre or more. I really don't get to see into their yards; however, we live next door to a tree nursery! I'm glad you had a nice hike.

It seems we had taken a very good walk. Do you go for a walk regularly?
