Although I finished the countdown of my favorite Billy Joel songs yesterday, a great suggestion from @DianneN (got any more??), I have to include this song as a bonus. So, for your listening and dancing pleasure, here’s a Billy bonus! BONUS: My Life While I do like this song a lot, there was just no room for it in the top ten. However, I have to highlight it for two reasons. One, my dear mother of blessed memory LOVED this song. The other reason is something funny regarding this song. I’ve done countdowns with songs that have similar or identical titles to other songs. That’s a common thing, and it’s easy for people to get the songs mixed up (J.D. Souther’s “You’re Only Lonely” is NOT the same song as Roy Orbison’s “Only the Lonely”). You don’t expect the “experts” at the publishing companies to get them mixed up!!! According to Bill Anderson’s autobiography, in the late 70s he received a royalty check, supposedly for his 1969 hit “My Life (Throw It Away If I Want To).” But it was for this song. Oy. Whisperin’ Bill forwarded the check to the other Bill, and things were fine. But sheesh!!!!! Enjoy this great classic Billy Joel hit. My mom sure did.
