Packed, Social Distancing-Style

One of my favorite places in the Smokies is the Chimneys picnic grounds, about four miles inside the park on the Tennessee side. I have such incredible memories of that place. My dear mother of blessed memory and I would always grab a sub or some chicken from KFC when we were in the Smokies, then head to the Chimneys for lunch by a creek. Today, less than three weeks after the Smokies reopened, the Chimneys was packed. However, it was all good. The way the picnic grounds are laid out, it is naturally set up for social distancing. The picnic tables and grills were yards, not feet, apart. That allowed families to stretch out and enjoy one another’s company while still not being too close to others. After all this country has been through this year it was refreshing to see families taking advantage of one of the most popular picnic areas in the Smoky Mountains!
