Haircut, finally!

I have been doing "gaman" (a great Japanese word for patience, persistence, doing without something or doing something hard for a long time) about getting a haircut.
I finally went to my little old lady today. (I think she's been cutting hair since I was in elementary school, probably, and she and her husband have this really cool tiny place on the first floor of their home, looks like it was decorated in the 60s or 70s). She was pleased to see me. I told her to take off a lot since it had been a while, and she laughed. "Everyone has been doing 'gaman'." I'm pleased that I can support a local business, because they really lost customers for a while there.
Since it is now hot and summery (not the super hot summer yet but still...) she gave me a very nice short summer cut. As my hair was growing out I noticed that it looked darker. I used to have very dark hair but now it is partially white. I noticed that over half the hair she cut off was dark, but when it is short it looks a lot whiter! I'm sure it doesn't change color as it gets longer, so what the heck? Maybe I'm on to something and need to grow my hair longer during the winter.
How is your hair doing? Have you braved going to the barber or hair salon yet, or do you still have "corona hair"?

I'm glad you managed to get a good hair cut. Mg husband trimmed the ends of my hair so they are in a good shape at present. I don't intend to go to the salon at all

I don't have anyone at home that could do this. Apparently my son-in-law has cut everyone's hair at his house, though.

I still have corona hair and it's getting on my nerves. I've trimmed the front a little, but I can't do the back. Our salons are still closed...I cut my husband's so it's not too bad.

I actually think it's good to keep them closed or at least well controlled for a while. I wasn't allowed to go in and wait while there was another customer there. I waited outside.

Me too! My usual salon isn't open, Hawaii Institute of Hair Design, student cutting hair only 9.75! I went to Fantastic Sam, 25.08,
it cost me but couldn't gamman any longer.

Mine is only ¥1000, which is about 8-9 dollars. I'm sure it's because they've been there so long that they own their place and are continuing to cut hair to earn in their "retirement" years. The next cheapest is a chain called QB Cut at ¥1200 but I'd have to drive there!

@oahuwriter Mine didn't have any plastic divides, but they wore masks and washed hands and used hand sanitizer.

That's a very good price. 9.72 a school with students cutting is where I usually go to get hair services, but they're still closed. I just couldn't stand it any longer, so I went to get it cut. Many charging extra for safety measures of plastic divides, soaps etc.

Good that you got your haircut and supported the local business. My husband is still with his corona hair and beard
Not sure he might be trying out a new look.

That's good, because once you cut too much you can't put it back on.

A proper hairdresser is really needed for short hair.

Our beautifian's are now open and say it is like the Christmas trade which is great news. I hope all the small businesses are able to come back stronger than ever although that is probably a bit much to wish for.

I hope all small businesses get good business. My son-in-law is at a restaurant and they really saw a downturn with all the teleworking, but I think telework is really good.

I have long hair. I do feather cuts sometimes. But I take care of my hair at my home itself.

I would be impressed with a feather cut. I thought only beauticians could do them.
