He served as juror, BEFORE he fell out of the barn loft

So a few days ago I told you about how John fell out of a barn loft during a total eclipse of the sun. He was on the look out for Native Americans, and it's likely he got startled / disoriented and simply kept walking. Well, BEFORE he did that, he served as juror in several cases. Let me back track a little further.. He moved his family to NC in 1746, but he served on Virginia juries a decade prior. What was he sitting in on? People not keeping their roads in repair, not going to church, living in adultery, and cursing. I can completely understand where people not keeping their roads repaired could be deadly. I can even understand adultery cases. I sure am glad that we live in a time where we can choose to go to church, and if we want to curse up a storm, well we can. Aren't you?

I love making posts about the old laws still on the books.

I doubt any of the laws pertaining to these cases are still on the books.. Well adultery, but the others... No.

It is amazing how laws were written then. Some might still be on the books and we just don't know. Years back we learned it was once illegal to bowl on Sundays.

I love looking up the old laws.. In the same community this man settled in, but at the turn of the 20th century, it was illegal to not call ahead when driving into the town. Probably because so many people still used horses for transportation.

@PatZAnthony That I am not sure of. I came across it last year, it was a Rutherford County law.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Wow-that must have been interesting. Who did the call? Police? Mayor?

I pretty much agree with you but the whole adultery thing could be avoided simply by not getting married, then if your spouse decides to lay with someone else and you find about it then it would be easy to simply walk away and yes, if children are involved by all means take them with you

Honestly I'm perfectly fine with not marrying. I've been married once, and it's not something I'd choose to do again. Not saying it won't happen, but I'm with you on the not getting married so it's easier to walk away.
