What is Going On?

The electricity was out twice for extended periods on Sunday. It was off several times for a few seconds at a time throughout the day. There is no water or technology when the electric shuts down. The day before that, the water was out for a period. For two days, the phones were not working at all. We did have rain and a low barometer reading because of a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico. I did not expect a storm to cause all those problems. But, I wonder if it was the storm or because no one seems to care what happens around here anymore. Do you have trouble with the utilities? Do you have internet problems that you can't figure out? What do you think is going on?

I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with your utilities. I hope it's storm-related and not something else.

Thank you. I know that the utilities here are very old and probably not up to code. They have tried to update them for years but it is a patchwork quilt of workarounds They probably need to update the whole system starting from scratch. I know that won't happen so we just have what we have. They just added the internet to the electric system somehow. No place else has their internet like this.

@just4him They have spent a lot of money trying to update things. I know the internet works a lot better than it did when I first got it.

@akalinus Wow! Maybe someone should report them so they get everything up to code.

There have been a few times when the lights have flickered but we have not lost power.

@akalinus I'm so sorry you lost power. I wonder what's causing the power to go out as often as it does.

@simone10 I think it is because it is an ancient system. There have been updates every year the last few but maybe they need to rip it all out and start over. I don't know, no one would be able to afford the rent if they did.

We definitely did lose power and it happens fairly often.

So far we don`t have any problem with the utilities here and no internet problem but I think if you have storm there then it can be the cause of the internet or the electricity problem there

Things did get a little better once the storm hit landfall in Lousiana. Florida almost always gets some effects from the storms in the Gulf. But, the electric often goes out on a clear day for no reason at all.

@akalinus Oh ok. Possible they have some repair going on. You can ask the office maybe they can help you out and clear things up why it shuts down for no reasons

@akalinus Wow, two weeks is way too long to go without power! We used to get frequent power cuts here as well. Because my husband and I are self-employed and mainly work remotely, it started to affect our work. So last year, we got ourselves a small backup system - best decision we ever made! But guess what?! Now that we have backup, the power very seldom goes down.

@Lushlala I know you have load shedding. We have rolling blackouts in some places. It is the same as load shedding. It is usually when the demand is too high. An electric company in California caused wildfires and much damage. I think they were trying to provide too much or something. I think there are lawsuits going in courtrooms there.

It has been an ongoing problem since I moved here in 2002. The longest we went without electricity was two weeks after some of the hurricanes.

I'm sorry to hear that. Does it go off entirely or just not work very well?

@amitkokiladitya What did he think the trouble was. Was it your computer or the whole system. There were a couple of days when the internet was very bad.

That is a common thing to happen in Indonesia, even without any cause. The most annoying, especially when the electricity goes out at night, can last for hours until early morning.

Does it wake you up if the power goes off in the night? It does me.

We had a brief outing the other day, but that is routine. Nothing unusual.

Do you have any idea why it goes off?

Mostly it's good here but if the power goes out, we have no water which is the biggest inconvenience.

Yes, that is a big minus. Our park gets water from a well and if there is no power, there is no water. Even worse, there is no technology working.

If I was an alien looking down on earth these days, I would say skip it. Earth is too crazy to even think about landing there.

@akalinus There was a time when power supply would get disrupted soever all times in a months. But that's now history. We now never face this problem. And we don't face Internet problems either.
