We putted!!! And I played like someone who hadn’t played in a year. Oh, wait, I hadn’t played in a year. My back isn’t a whole lot better (thanks to a fall I took last week), but I’m playing! I’ve had my time in the spotlight, and I’m just enjoying the fun and the friendship. Meanwhile, I’ll also enjoy another song with “home” in the title. Here’s another obscure-but-not-obscure artist for you. #2: Buffalo River Home - John Hiatt I say this every time I use Hiatt: you probably don’t know his name, but you do know his songs. From Three Dog Night’s “Sure As I’m Sittin’ Here” to Eric Clapton & BB King’s duet “Riding With the King” to Jeff Healy’s ‘Angel Eyes,” Hiatt has written enough successful songs to keep up his grandkids’ college tuition payments without being a “superstar” name. Not that he isn’t a “superstar” name. He’s in the Nashville Songwriters’ Hall of Fame, and has received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Americana Music Association. He’s just not on the ‘mainstream pop’ radar. As for this song, it’s one of my favorites, and the absolute favorite of a friend of mine. Love me some John Hiatt.
