This can't be good.

My NAD CD player started distorting a few weeks ago. I've had it for a few years, and my apartment is pretty dusty, so I decided to take the top off and give it a good cleaning with De-oxit, which is basically an electronic contact cleaner. It seemed to help...a bit...but no, the thing started distorting again. A friend lent me an ancient cheap CD player, but it didn't work right either. So I've been without CD listening in my main system for several weeks now. Now that I'm feeling a bit better. I might take the NAD apart again and see what I can do. I hear something rattling inside it. What the heck could it be? I wanna be able to listen to my CDs! Anything "broken" in your world?

You still listen to music using that ancient technology? Don't you know that the newest technology--vinyl records--is the way to go these days? I'm also experimenting with a new technology called 8-track tapes. I'll let you know how that goes!

@TheHorse I have always loved the sound vinyl makes. That "scratchy" sound is often what made so many songs sound good!

How do they sound? They might be better than we remember. I'm glad I kept my AR turntable and Shure cartridge. Now I can listen to modern technology, which DOES sound better than CDs.

@moffittjc I remember where the nicks are on my favorite albums. It almost doesn't seem right when they're not there.

@DianneN I may have fixed it! All I did was spray a large amount of contact cleaner (generic De-Oxit) on the mechanism that drives the CD and (I think) the laser itself. I have it hooked up to my secondary system and it sounds good now. I hope it lasts. I'm going to put the top back on and see how it sounds in my primary system, which is where it usually lives.

Glad you're feeling well enough to work on the NAD. I don't think we have anything broken at the moment.

Yeah, that's a part of how I knew I was REALLY feeling better. I've been staring at that thing for several days.

Sometimes my iPad touchscreen types multiple letters and sometimes nothing. Right now it's working fine, though. It's somewhere between 6 and 8 years old years old so I'm glad it still works.

Heh. Same with my tired old desktop keyboard. I give it a going over with De-Oxit now and again as well.

You can try cleaning the surface of the optical lens by using an ear bud (cotton bud). Wipe it gently and don't push too much. Sometimes that can solve the problem.

The fast moving air of the contact cleaner I shot in there may have done the trick. Thanks!
