Rock Titles Not in the Songs: Dyer Maker (#10)

How’s this for a follow-up to an old country music song? That’s right, folks, it’s all part of that crazy music world I live in. Here’s today’s rock song that doesn’t mention the title anywhere in the lyrics. #10: D’yer Mak’er - Led Zeppelin Heck, there’s a top 30 of Zep songs without the title in the lyrics out there!! I remember hearing a quote from Robert Plant as to why their songs had such completely detached titles, and his reply sort of made sense: he said they “got used” to the “working title” of the songs, and never bothered changing them to fit the lyrics once the song was completed. This song, with its reggae feel, got its title from a joke: a man said he got married and went on his honeymoon. His friend said, “D’yer mak’er” (“did you make her”), and the man replied, “No, she went willingly.” Now you know, oh oh oh oh. D’yer Mak’er Written by Robert Plant, John Bonham, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones Recorded by Led Zeppelin From Houses of the Holy, 1973 Ooh, baby I love you:

Not my favorite from Zep but certainly a good one. Then again, not sure they have a bad song.

I’m not a big Zep fan, but I certainly acknowledge their significance and importance in rock, and the role they played in the rise of FM album rock.
